Goethite Pseudomorph After Selenite

Goethite Pseudomorph After Selenite from Santa Eulalia District, Chihuahua, Mexico

Collection

Robert Lavinsky

Description

This piece formed from Goethite casting over and partially replacing Selenite crystals in parallel cluster, which then dissolved. So, it is hollow and light in weight, though it looks massive to the eye . A lot of this material has crept into the market over the years, though much of it is probably a lot older, found in the 1970s and prior. This piece stands out for its sheer sharpness, intense jet black color, wet-looking luster, and sparkling, colorless Calcite atop. This specimen was obtained from an old collection in 2003, and was sold it into the Dave Stoudt Mexico collection shortly after.
