Rare, strontium-rich member of
Clinozoisite with one of the calcium atoms replaced by strontium. It is named after the
type locality of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, and is scientifically categorized as an individual mineral species. Niigataite was renamed to Clinozoisite-(Sr) by the
IMA in 2006.
