Axis

Imaginary line drawn through the center of an object, either horizontally or vertically. In the case of minerals, it is used to determine if and how a crystal has symmetry. The horizontal axis is known as the x axis, and the vertical axis as the y axis. Axis lines are usually drawn as dotted lines.
