Sharp Aegirine Matrix Crystal
Collection
Robert Lavinsky
Description
A highly important old specimen featuring a 5.3-cm-long crystal of jet-black Aegerine in matrix from Arkansas. The crystal is razor sharp and has high luster. Most Arkansas Aegirine is small and uninteresting, so this piece really stands out. It carries a label from the Houston Museum, where it was accessioned in 1985 as part of the multimillion dollar donation by oilman Perkin Sams. It was deaccessioned in 1996 and hidden away in a collection until now. This is a major United States specimen for this rare species.
