Boleite with Epitaxial Diaboleite Growths

Boleite with Epitaxial Diaboleite Growths from Amelia Mine, Santa Rosalia, Baja California, Mexico

Collection

Robert Lavinsky

Description

This is an exemplary example of the epitaxial, or oriented serial growth, of these rare species one upon the other, with sharp form and good color as well. All of the steppes upon the original simple cube of Boleite are in fact the related species Pseudoboleite. Thick Pseudoboleite epitaxially here completely overgrew the Boleite cube, showing quite clearly even to the naked eye. Interestingly, only Boleite is a silver species - the other two related species found here have no silver content. The crystals from this, the type locality, remain the best known by an order of magnitude, still today 100 and more years later. Ex. Dick Jones collection.
